Web Matrix Sneak Peek #2

Another sneak peek at the upcoming version of Web Matrix... user control preview on the design surface!
As promised, another screenshot (actually two) for today. Didn't mean to tease anyone with these... but was excited with the new features, and thought they deserved a trailer of sorts like other big anticipated movies ;-)

The first screenshot shows two .ascx user controls files being edited. The second screenshot shows them being used in an .aspx page. Web Matrix now renders the contents of user controls offering a live preview, and also has the styles applied to the page automatically apply to the contents of the user control... making for a better WYSIWYG display.

As I mentioned, I wrote my blog in Web Matrix, so I could at the same time test out the new features. The screenshots show a couple of the user controls I have on my site.

What is the relationship between the Web Matrix and VS.NET teams? Do you see these features making it into the next release of VS.NET?

So you used all server controls for your blog engine.

Looks great. Will the source code for Web Matrix released anytime soon? I would love to steal some of Web Matrix's design-time UI handling code.

Nikhil, that looks great! If the web matrix team is looking for some outside help beta testing, I would be willing to lend a hand ;)

Man, that is just too cool with the user controls. When I'm teaching my ASP.NET classes newbies to VS.NET get pretty freaked out by seeing that "thing" pop up instead of what they just created. Oh man, I've been preaching the user control thing for a while, and adding better design time support (even in Web Matrix) puts a hop in my step.

Very Nice Indeed. The interface looks like a cross between Office 2003 and Trillian. Good stuff. A screenshot a day... that will be hard to come by. Especially since you released two today...

By the way... love the server control book. Can't wait to see what you're writing for V2 :).

Wow - using Web Matrix to blog about Web Matrix, while showing a screen shot of Web Matrix with your blog on the screen. As Keanu Reeves would say: "Woah"
